Chelsea enjoyed a successful evening at Best FIFA Football Awards 2021, including a Best Coach double.
In a successful evening for the West London club, Edouard Mendy walked away with the award for Best Men’s Goalkeeper in the first of many awards for Chelsea.
Millie Bright and Magdalena Eriksson were named in the FIFPRO Women’s XI for the Blues alongside Manchester City’s Lucy Bronze and Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema as the only three Women’s Super League representatives.
Jorginho and N’Golo Kante meanwhile were named in the Men’s XI alongside fellow Premier League stars; Ruben Dias, Kevin De Bruyne and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo also picked up an individual award as he was awarded the FIFA Men’s Special Award after becoming the highest scoring international footballer in 2021, as well as the highest scoring player within UEFA Euros history.
Thomas Tuchel and Emma Hayes were named Best Men’s and Women’s Coaches in a managerial double for Chelsea, with Hayes’ award coming after she guided the Blues to a domestic women’s football treble and finished runners-up in last season’s Women’s Champions League.
Elsewhere, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski defended his title as the Best Men’s Player whilst Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas was crowned as the Best Women’s Player.
Denmark picked up two awards following their Euros exploits as the National Team and Medical Staff received the Fair Play Award for their handling of Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest, whilst their and Finland fans were handed the Fans Award for their chant during the game.
Christine Sinclair picked up the FIFA Female Special Award after she became the outright record holder for most goals in international football last year, having netted 188 goals in total throughout her international career for Canada.
