Calan Williams Joins Trident For 2022 F2 Season

Calan Williams has joined Trident for the 2022 F2 season as the Australian driver graduates from F3.

Williams spent 2020 and 21 seasons racing in F3 for Jenzer where he claimed just one podium finish – third in 2021 French Race One last season en route to 19th in the standings with 15 points, having failed to score any points during 2020 campaign.

Last month saw Williams participate in the 2021 F2 Post-Season Test for Trident where he enjoyed a positive overall three days of running.

Speaking on his decision to graduate to F2, Williams said: “I’m extremely proud that a team so incredibly competitive and professional like Trident Motorsport welcomed me to its line-up.

“I worked very well with the team’s staff in the last few months and in the FIA Formula 2 Championship post-season test.”

This move though comes after two difficult seasons in F3 for the 21 year-old but Williams believes that he has “a unique chance in front of me and I will give my 100 percent to use my full potential and show my skills on track.

“I’m really delighted that Trident Motorsport welcomed me to the team so warmly and believed in me!”

Trident Team Principal, Giacomo Ricci added that the Italian team is “delighted” to welcome Williams to the team.

Ricci went on to praise Williams for his work in the post-season test as he commented: “Calan quickly adapted to a car of a superior series and set competitive marks in terms of overall performance and race simulations.

“Our technical staff was really impressed by his performance, but he also shined in terms of work ethics and commitment that he poured in to be always competitive, day in, day out.”

Ricci concluded that Williams “quickly created a strong bond between him and the team,” which will be crucial to a “really demanding” season with 14 races.

Further details of who will partner Calan Williams at Trident this season will be released in due course.
