2021-22 Premier League: Week 21 – Leeds vs Burnley

Leeds United welcome Burnley to Elland Road in a crunch untelevised Super Sunday clash at the foot of the Premier League table.

Victory would see Leeds move eight points clear of the relegation zone with a win but stay 16th, whereas Burnley can climb out of the relegation zone with a win.

Patrick Bamford is set to return for Leeds after recovering from a hamstring injury but faces a late fitness test.

Diego Llorente (illness), Jack Harrison (hip) and Daniel James (adductor) are also set to return.

Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips (both hamstring), Jamie Shackleton (Achilles), Rodrigo (calf), Pascal Struijk (foot) and Charlie Cresswell (shoulder) are ruled out.

Burnley will be without Nick Pope, Kevin Long, Josh Brownhill and Jay Rodriguez after the quartet all tested positive for Coronavirus prior to Thursday’s defeat at Manchester United.

Maxwel Cornet (thigh) is a doubt but Connor Roberts (fitness) and Ashley Barnes (thigh) remains absent.

Prediction

Having not played for the last two weeks after their shambolic defeat to Arsenal, I am unsure what to expect from Leeds because they will either come back fresh or continue to put in inconsistent performances with terrible defending.

Burnley meanwhile were simply outplayed at Man Utd on Thursday but there were some positives in attack given that they had had a fortnight off through no fault of their own, so I am hoping that they will be able to build on that display despite their poor form at Elland Road.

In fact that freshness and game under their belt should give Sean Dyche’s Clarets the edge because if they play with patience and discipline, I can see them eventually breaking down Leeds’ leaky defence if can frustrate them.

Prediction: Leeds 1-2 Burnley

Result: Leeds 3-1 Burnley
