Emil Riis Jakobsen has signed a new contract at Preston North End until Summer 2025.
Since arriving at Deepdale in October 2020 from Randers FC, Riis Jakobsen has netted 12 goals in 55 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking about his decision to sign a new deal just 12 months into his existing four-year contract, Riis Jakobsen said: “I know it’s only for another year than I already had but I’m really happy the club has shown confidence in me.”
Riis Jakobsen previously was part of Derby County Academy from July 2015 until he departed for Randers FC following a loan spell at VVV-Venlo in early 2018 with the Danish youngster “really happy” to have returned to England and demonstrate his ability after achieving his aim of “first team football.”
The 23 year-old though is wary of Preston’s current precarious position near the foot of the Sky Bet Championship as they sit 19th, just six points above the relegation zone after suffering defeat at Blackpool last weekend.
Reflecting on that defeat, Riis Jakobsen said: “After the loss against Blackpool we knew we were going to change a bit and we had to go and get more together as a group and fight a bit more for each other maybe. We’re ready to show that on Saturday.
“Funnily enough we’ve been playing well against the teams high up in the table so maybe that’s a good thing.”
Head Coach, Frankie McAvoy meanwhile is delighted to secure the 23 year-old for one further season than initially contracted and has praised Riis Jakobsen for performing “remarkably well” with nine goals so far this season on top of increased confidence.
Explaining Riis Jakobsen’s best qualities, McAvoy commented: “We know his biggest strength is his running, his power and his pace, but to be an accomplished striker you need to add other strings to your bow and we’re working as a coaching team to try and enhance those attributes that he’s got.
“I’m just delighted that he’s signed an extension to his deal because I believe that he’s got the chance to develop here at Preston North End and I know that the fans have enjoyed watching him this season and hopefully there’s many more good days to come from him.”
