Arsenal and Chelsea have discovered their opposition for the first-ever Group Stage of 2021-22 UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Emma Hayes’ Chelsea enters at this stage by virtue of finishing runners-up in last season’s Final to Barcelona who also won Spain’s Primeira Division, otherwise they would of entered the competition in the Second Qualifying Round.
Chelsea however were drawn into what could be described as the ‘group of death’ after landing in Group A alongside two-time champions, Wolfsburg, as well as Serie A’s Juventus and Servette who knocked out Glasgow City in the Second Round.
Chelsea’s pairing with Juventus also means that both clubs will meet at the same stage of this season’s Champions League editions across both men and women’s competitions.
Arsenal meanwhile entered at the First Round stage where they overcame Okzhetpes and PSV in a mini-tournament in Russia, before comfortably dispatching Slavia Prague 7-0 on aggregate in the Second Round to qualify for this Group Stage.
Jonas Eidevall’s Gunners will now face title-holders, Barcelona in Group C alongside Hoffenheim and Denmark’s HB Koge, as the North Londoners look to chase their first European title since winning this competition in 2006-07 season.
Seven-time winners, Lyon meanwhile will face Bayern Munich, BK Hacken and Benfica in Group D, whilst PSG were placed in Group B alongside Breidablik, Kharkiv and Real Madrid after the Spanish team defeated Manchester City in the Second Round.
Group Stage ties will be played between 5 October – 16 December 2021 with the top two finishers from each group advancing to the Quarter-Finals, which will take place across two legs between 22-31 March 2022.
The Semi-Finals will also be held across two legs between 23 April – 1 May 2022 ahead of the Grand Final on Sunday 22 May 2022 at Juventus Stadium, Turin, Italy.
