Leicester City have announced the deadline-day signing of Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig in a season-long loan deal with option to buy next summer.
This move sees Lookman return to the Premier League on a permanent deal after spending last season on loan at Fulham, where he netted four goals in 35 appearances, following two-and-a-half years at RB Leipzig in Germany.
Lookman initially joined the Bundesliga club on loan from Everton in January 2018 before signing a permanent deal seven months later, as he went on to score five goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking on his decision to join Leicester, Lookman said: “I’m delighted to be here. It’s a great honour to be at such a big and amazing club with such a huge history and a quality group of players.”
Lookman also praised the playing environment at the club which played a part in his belief that the Foxes can help him progress in his development, adding: “The facilities are incredible. It’s pretty mind-blowing and I just can’t wait to get to work here.
“I think environment is very important for a player, so this is the right environment for me to work hard every single day and to help my craft be even better.”
Lookman went on to add that he knows Harvey Barnes, Hamza Choudhury and James Maddison from their time together amongst England’s youth teams, whilst commenting that the squad overall is “a young and exciting group with a lot of power,” between them.
Manager, Brendan Rogers also is attributed as one of Lookman’s main reasons for joining after discussions, commenting: “I’ve had the chance to speak to him and he’s one of the big reasons why I decided to join this club because obviously he’s a coach who develops a lot of players into even better and great players.”
Rogers’ coaching style also fitted in with the youngster’s aim “to want to improve and be better.”
Lookman also teased fans as to what they can expect from him, saying: “In my game, in terms of creativity and goals and assists, I like to create space and I see myself as an exciting player. I want to be exciting and I want to be a player that gets fans off their seats.”
The 23 year-old began his career at Charlton Athletic where he broke through into the first-team in November 2015 after just one season in their Academy, going on to score 12 goals in 49 appearances before joining Everton in January 2017 where he only managed four goals in 48 appearances.
Lookman has also been part of England’s Under-19, U20 and U21 squads, including the 2017 U20 World Cup winning squad where he netted three goals during the tournament and featured in the Final as the Young Lions defeated Venezuela 1-0.
RB Leipzig tweeted Lookman their best wishes for his loan switch in an official tweet announcing his season-long loan move.
