Red Bull have announced that Sergio Perez will be retained for 2022 Formula One Season, partnering Max Verstappen for a second consecutive season.

Perez joined Red Bull at the start of 2021 after ending a seven-season stint at Racing Point (formerly Force India) and currently lies fifth in the driver standings with one victory after dramatically winning in Azerbaijan.

Speaking on his decision to renew his contract for a further season, Perez admitted that he was “really happy” to finalise his plans for 2022 as F1 gears up for a new era with a technical overhaul set to come into effect.

Perez therefore believes that he has a huge shot at the title next season with the entire field set to be reset, saying: “Everyone starts from zero next year with the new regulations, so my only goal is to go all the way to the top with Red Bull.”

The Mexican though admitted that “it always takes time to get on top of everything” when adapting to a new team but is happy with his development and confident of Red Bull’s “faith in me for the future.”

Perez also iterated that he is keen to build momentum in coming races to take forward into 2022 despite all-new car designs set to hit the track next season, which he believes will be a “great challenge” for him.

Team Principal, Christian Horner added that Perez is “highly respected” given his decade of F1 experience under his belt with “invaluable” race-craft which can often prove key to unlocking results in Red Bull’s fight against Mercedes’ for the constructor title.

Horner went onto iterate that Perez “will play an integral role” in assisting the team with this transitional period between eras.

Perez will again partner Verstappen who is contracted to Red Bull until end of 2023 season after signing his latest deal in January 2020. .
