Alashkert look to overturn an one goal deficit from the first leg of their 2021-22 UEFA Europa League Play-Off as they welcome Rangers to Republican Stadium.
Alashkert need to score twice without conceding to stand any chance of progressing whereas Rangers will advance with a win or draw, although they would also progress with defeat on away goals if both teams score yet Steven Gerrard’s Gers lose by just a margin of one goal.
Alashkert have no fresh injury concerns to report with a full squad in contention for selection.
Rangers could be without Fashion Sakala due to a minor groin injury which has affected the striker in recent weeks.
John Lundstram, Glen Kamara and Kemar Roofe are sidelined through suspension, whilst Ryan Jack (knee) and Nnamdi Ofoborh (personal) remain ruled out.
- Alashkert lost their only previous meeting against Rangers, losing 1-0 at Ibrox in the first leg.
- Rangers are playing away to Armenian opposition for the very first time.
- Alashkert have won one of two previous home matches against Scottish opposition, scoring once and conceding three.
- Rangers have scored in each of their last eight UEFA away matches (W5, D2, L1).
Having done well to hold Rangers for much of last week’s first leg at Ibrox, Alashkert now face a tricky test because they are going to have to come out and attack which looks a tough ask, having failed to produce a shot on target despite playing 47 minutes with an additional man.
Rangers meanwhile looked sharp in Sunday’s win at Ross County despite conceding twice and having sussed out their minnow opposition last Thursday, I am expecting them to come here confident of continuing their strong away form.
On that note, I do hope that we see a more attacking match here because Alashkert have to just go for it, which could suit Rangers if they soak up the pressure and hit them on the counter although I am going for a routine away win.
Prediction: Alashkert 0-2 Rangers
Result: Alashkert 0-0 Rangers (Rangers win 1-0 on aggregate!!)
