Stockton Town have appointed Nigel Carson as the Anchors’ new Head of Scouting & Player Recruitment for 2021-22 season.

Carson will combine his new role at the Anchors alongside his current role as a scout for Leeds United and has revealed that he is “over the moon” to join the Teesside club ahead of the new season, which gets underway with a trip to Stockbridge Park Steels this Saturday (14 August).

Explaining what his role will involve, Carson said: “My role is to watch opposition teams the week or two before we play them to help the coaching staff to prepare our team for the game and watch potential new players.”

This isn’t the first connection that Carson has to Stockton-On-Tees having previously studied at Stockton Sixth Form College as “a Stockton lad”, with the college located in-between the Anchors’ pitch and Clubhouse. which Carson has hailed as “brilliant” with the pitch being used by the club and College.

Carson began his career as a coach as Head of Head of Scarborough Sixth Form Football and Scarborough & District Schools Football, prior to taking on a lead role in charge of Youth Development at Scarborough Athletic as well as spend time acting as a scout for Hull City and Club Coach Mentor for English FA.

Carson went on to praise Stockton Town’s plans for the future, saying: “It’s the vision of the club, how forward thinking it is, it really wants to progress to the best it can be.

“There are at clubs at higher levels which don’t have the same level of infrastructure and desire to be where Stockton Town is trying to be.”

This season will see Stockton join the new Northern Premier League East Division with several young players graduating through their junior teams, which Carson believes is “brilliant” in combination with their new kit deal with Macron.

Carson concluded by stating that scouting is just one further step forward for the club, adding: “Scouting was one of the things the club can do to further professionalise itself, I was out watching Stocksbridge last week so hopefully there is a positive result on the opening day coming from that.”
