Ange Postecoglou Appointed New Celtic Manager

Celtic have appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new permanent manager ahead of 2021-22 season.

Postecoglou joins the Hoops on a 12-month rolling contract from Yokohama F. Marinos where he guided the Japanese club to the 2019 J League title, having previously won Premiership and Championship titles in Australia with Brisbane Roar and South Melbourne.

Speaking with pride at being appointed as Celtic’s fourth foreign manager, Postecoglou said: “The opportunity that has been given to me is one of the greatest honours in football and the responsibility to lead our magnificent football club into the future is one that I will cherish dearly.”

Postecoglou went on to describe Celtic as ‘a giant’ and ‘proper footballing institution’ of worldwide football, pointing to the club’s ‘real history, real substance, real authenticity and real soul’ as some of the best qualities of the 51-time Scottish League champions.

The ex Australia boss also addressed Celtic fans, commenting: “I know Celtic is a true way of life for so many people and I know the demands which come with this position – I am ready to do all I can to meet those demands.”

Acknowledging the fact that fans were unable to attend matches last season due to the Coronavirus pandemic forcing games to be played behind-closed-doors, Postecoglou admitted that it would be a ‘dream’ to see supporters back at a sell-out Celtic Park.

Postecoglou also vowed to do his utmost best to get Celtic ‘back on top’ with success and deliver quality football which fans can ‘appreciate’ and be entertained by, which are the objectives that the Greece-born manager ‘always set myself’ at each of his previous teams.

In relation to transfer plans, the 55 year-old has also confirmed that plans are underway with the aim of bringing in players who can ‘enhance the existing core’ of players already in the squad.

Postecoglou will meet the first-team squad when they return to training after their summer break later this month, as preparations begin for pre-season friendlies and their Champions League qualifiers which get underway in July 2021.
