Hege Riise Names 21-Woman Lionesses’ Squad For June Training Camp

Hege Riise has named a 21 woman squad for England Lionesses’ six-day training camp at Bisham Abbey from Sunday 6 June 2021.

All 19 England members of Riise’s Olympics squad have been called up for this training camp alongside goalkeepers, Carly Telford and Hannah Hampton who have been selected for this camp despite ‘narrowly’ missing out on places in Olympics squad.

Alex Greenwood, Millie Turner, Jordan Nobbs, Bethany England and Beth Mead are all snubbed despite featuring in April’s international friendlies, whilst Chloe Kelly is ruled out with a serious knee injury.

With England’s men squad using St George’s Park as their base for Euro 2020, Riise’s Lionesses will be based at Bisham Abbey, Berkshire where the Norwegian manager is looking to focus on individual development plans and training management, on top of preparing her Olympic Lionesses for ‘physical conditions’ of Japan.

Riise has also confirmed that she fully intends to maximise use of Bisham Abbey’s acclimation chambers to ensure that her Lionesses are fully adapted to predicted hot and humid conditions of Japan ahead of the tournament.

Explaining her decision to treat this gathering as a preliminary Olympics training camp for England players, Riise said: “While this is purely an England camp, it felt sensible to really focus in now on preparations for the Olympics with the English players who have been selected for Team GB,” this summer.

The FA have also confirmed that Team GB Women’s Football squad will meet on Thursday 17 June for their first training camp in preparation for the tournament, as Sophie Ingle and Caroline Weir link up with the squad after completing their international fixtures with Wales and Scotland respectively.

Team GB will kick off their Olympics campaign on 21 July against Chile before facing Japan and Canada in their final two group matches on 24 and 27 July.

Here is the full 21-woman England Lionesses squad selected for this month’s training camp.
