Various F1 and motorsport stars have paid tribute to Moto3 rider, Jason Dupasquier following the 19 year-old’s tragic death in a Qualifying crash.
Dupasquier passed away this morning (30 May) at Careggi Hospital, Florence, Italy following a crash yesterday (29 May) in Moto3 Qualifying for 2021 Italian Grand Prix at Mugello as part of the MotoGP weekend.
The Swiss rider ‘was involved in a multi-rider incident’ in which he fell from his KTM in a collision with Ayumu Sasaki , only to be accidentally hit by Jeremy Alcoba with the Spaniard and Sasaki walking away with no physical injuries.
Dupasquier meanwhile received treatment trackside for 30 minutes before being flown to Careggi Hospital in a stable condition, where he ‘sadly succumbed to his injuries.’
Dupasquier had made a bright start to his second season in Moto3 and was sat within the top ten of the riders’ standings entering this round.
Sasaki and Alcoba went on to complete Sunday’s race in which the Japanese rider finished fourth whilst Alcoba took the final point in 15th place, as Dupasquier’s Prustel GP teammate – Ryusei Yamanaka withdrew from Sunday’s Moto3 race as a result of this tragic incident.
Dupasquier’s fellow Swiss rider, Thomas Luthi withdrew from Moto2 race to go to Careggi Hospital to support his compatriot’s family.
Tributes soon began flooding in across motorsport with various F1 teams and stars past and present paying their own tributes to Dupasquier, whilst F1 themselves released a tweet in which they sent their ‘thoughts’ to Dupasquier’s family.
