Liverpool have announced that an agreement has been reached for the transfer of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in July.
Konate has agreed terms on a long-term deal with Liverpool which will see join the Reds from 1 July 2021, subject to international clearance and a successful work permit application once terms are finalised and the French defender passes a medical.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Konate confessed to feeling ‘happy’ to sign for the Merseyside club and cannot wait to meet his new teammates and getting started on mounting a title challenge after Jurgen Klopp’s Reds endured a disastrous title defence in 2020-21 season as they finished third.
Konate though iterated that his focus is currently on France’s Quarter-Final tie against Netherlands at the knockout stage of Under-21 Euros on Monday 31 May.
The 22 year-old also paid tribute to RB Leipzig, commenting; “I have worked very hard for many years to get to this point, but I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at RB Leipzig and all the people I worked with there – the coaches, my teammates, the staff and especially the fans.
“Your support helped me grow up during my time there and become not only a better player, but a better man and I will always be grateful for it.”
Konate’s move brings an end to his four seasons at RB Leipzig in which he netted four goals in 95 appearances across all competitions, having signed from Sochaux after graduating through the French club’s Academy.
