Five Premier League stars have been named in Netherlands’ final 26-man Euro 2020 squad.
Brighton’s Joel Veltman, Crystal Palace’s Patrick Van Anholt and Nathan Ake of Manchester City have been selected in defence by manager, Frank de Boer.
Fulham’s Kenny Tete misses out alongside; Hans Hateboer, Rick Karsdorp and Jerry St. Juste
Georginio Wijnaldum makes the squad amidst questions surrounding his future at Liverpool as his contract is set to expire at the end of June, with reports linking the midfielder with a move to Barcelona.
Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek is also included alongside goalkeeper, Tim Krul who is included after helping Norwich City to the Sky Bet Championship title and instant promotion back to the Premier League after relegation last summer.
Krasnodar’s Tonny Vilhena is the only midfielder from the preliminary selection to be omitted from the final squad.
Up front, Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn and Aston Villa’s Anwar El Ghazi have both been snubbed despite making the preliminary squad, with Memphis Depay and Steven Berghuis amongst selected strikers.
Netherlands will now play warm-up friendlies against Scotland and Georgia on 2 and 6 June 2021 in Almancil, Portugal, and Enschede, Netherlands ahead of their Euro 2020 campaign.
De Boer’s Oranje will play their three group matches on home turf in Amsterdam as part of the pan-Euro tournament, kicking off with a clash against fellow Group C favourites – Ukraine on Saturday 13 June, before hosting Austria on Thursday 17 June with both matches kicking off at 9pm local time (8pm UK Time).
Netherlands’ final Group C game will see them face North Macedonia on Monday 21 June at 6pm local time (5pm UK Time).
