Channel 4 to Continue Broadcasting W Series For 2021 Season

Channel Four will continue to broadcast W Series throughout the 2021 season, having been the UK broadcaster for the inaugural campaign in 2019.

C4 will broadcast the entire W Series season from the opening round in Austria on Saturday 26 June through to Mexico which concludes the campaign on 30 October, as the series prepares to support F1 at selected races throughout the season.

W Series Chief Executive Officer, Catherine Bond Muir is ‘delighted’ to welcome Channel Four back on board in an reinforcement of “… its commitment to showcasing women’s sport and our talented racing drivers.”

Bond Muir also noted that free-to-air coverage of live motorsport is now ‘rare’ but iterated that this partnership with Channel 4 is crucial to W Series plans to promote role models to wider audiences of women looking to become part of motorsport in any capacity.

W Series have also confirmed that Lee McKenzie will return as presenter, as David Coulthard and Ted Kravitz also re-join the team as co-commentator and pit lane reporter after the series took an one-year break in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Formula One, Two and Three commentator, Alex Jacques will replace Claire Cottingham as lead commentator, whilst Billy Monger will serve as another co-commentator alongside Coulthard and replace the Scot at selected races.

McKenzie will miss some races due to her multi-sports commitments in this packed sporting calendar year, with Sky Sports Boxing presenter, Anna Woolhouse confirmed as alternative presenter for selected races.

2019 W Series driver, Naomi Schiff will join the team as analyst after losing her seat following a difficult rookie season.

Channel 4 Head of News, Current and Affairs and Sport, Louisa Compton also spoke of her pride at securing exclusive coverage of W Series’ second season, saying; “W Series aligns brilliantly with Channel 4 – it’s exciting, bold and breaking down barriers.”

Five British drivers will participate in the second season of W Series throughout 2021, including defending champion – Jamie Chadwick who returns alongside Jessica Hawkins, Sarah Moore, Alice Powell as the quartet are joined by rookie, Abbie Eaton.
