Ziggo Sport Lose F1 Broadcasting Rights in Netherlands to Viaplay

Ziggo Sport have lost F1 broadcasting rights in Netherlands to Viaplay on a three season deal from 2022-24 seasons.

This announcement comes months before F1 returns to Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix, with Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) securing the rights for their Viaplay streaming service in the Netherlands.

Viaplay will stream all practice, qualifying and race sessions live exclusively with innovative programmes throughout Grand Prix weekends, with coverage from their own studio in Amsterdam.

NENT Group will also make the Dutch GP available live in Netherlands on a free-to-air basis, which will also be available free-to-view alongside five other selected races with all race highlights across entire season.

F1 has also confirmed that F1 TV Pro service will continue to be available for Dutch fans as normal, despite this streaming deal with NENT Group.

F1 Director of Media Rights, Ian Holmes is “delighted” to expand their deal with NENT who currently hold broadcasting rights in Scandinavia and other territories.

Holmes also praised NENT for their upcoming coverage plans, saying; “Given their commitment to unparalleled coverage and the promotion of Formula 1, we have no doubt that they will bring fans the sport they love through this exciting new platform.”

NENT Group President and CEO, Anders Jensen described Netherlands as the “ideal market” for Viaplay as the business look to continue their aim of becoming a key player in sport streaming across Europe.

Further details on when Viaplay will launch in the Netherlands, pricing and packaging will be announced in due course.
