Manchester City look to secure their fifth Premier League title as they welcome Chelsea to the Etihad Stadium in a blockbuster clash.
Last weekend’s postponement of Manchester United’s tie against Liverpool now means that victory would see Man City seal the title irrespective of what their neighbours do in their remaining matches.
Chelsea meanwhile could go third with a win if Leicester fail to beat Newcastle on Friday evening.
Team News
Man City have no fresh injury concerns to report after Tuesday’s Champions League win over PSG, as John Stones serves the last of a three match domestic ban.
Chelsea too have no fresh injury concerns to report as Mateo Kovacic remains ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Stat Attack
- Man City have lost just two of their last seven league meetings against Chelsea (W5, L2).
- Chelsea have claimed just four points from their last six trips to Manchester City (W1, D1, L4).
- Both teams have scored in their last three Premier League clashes, with Chelsea netting four goals to City’s six strikes.
- Fernandinho has been booked in each of City’s last two home league games.
- No defender has scored more Premier League goals this season than Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma, who has found the net on five occasions in 21 league appearances.
Prediction
Having cruised to comfortable 2-0 victories in the past week, Man City should certainly come into this game high on confidence because they just seem in absolute control of their play in terms of confidence and enjoyment at present.
Chelsea meanwhile have done a great job defensively to weather waves of attacks from Fulham and Real Madrid, yet they probably need a win here for phycological reasons given that these two teams are set to meet in Champions League Final later this month.
I therefore am expecting another nervy contest like we saw at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-finals a few weeks ago, but this time City will have their best players fully available which should make the difference to seal the title in style.
Prediction: Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea
Result: Manchester City 1-2 Chelsea
