Great Britain’s Women Football Olympics Team have been drawn in a tough group alongside hosts, Japan.
Participating in the Olympics for the first time since 2012, Hege Riise’s Great Britain will kick off their Olympics campaign in Group E against Chile on 21 July in the opening match of the tournament.
Team GB will then face Canada three days later in a rematch of their 2012 Quarter-Final which the North American team won 2-0, before concluding their group campaign against Japan on 27 July.
Group G however has the stand-out teams with Sweden and USA drawn together in their opening match, with the Swedes having knocked the USA out on penalties at the 2016 tournament in the Quarter-Finals following a 1-1 draw.
Joint co-hosts of 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup – Australia and New Zealand will also kick off their Olympic campaigns against each other in the same group.
Sarina Wiegman’s final tournament as Netherlands boss before departing for England will see the Dutch play in Group F, where they will take on Zambia, Brazil and China.
Top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout alongside the two best third-placed finishers across the three groups.

Brazil Face Tough Title Defence in Men’s Tournament
Reigning Olympics men’s champions, Brazil will face a tough title defence after being placed in Group D with Germany, Ivory Coast and Saudi Arabia.
Should Brazil advance to the knockouts, they could then face a difficult Quarter-Final against Spain or Argentina, with Mexico, France and Korea Republic potentially awaiting them in the semi-finals out of those in groups A and B.
2019 UEFA European U21s champions, Spain have been placed in Group C alongside Egypt, Argentina and Australia.
Olympics hosts, Japan will open the men’s tournament against South Africa before facing Mexico and France after those four were drawn together in Group A.
Group B will contain New Zealand, Korea Republic, Honduras and Romania.
