A packed round saw one team seal promotion whilst the relegation battle saw further twists as the season’s conclusion draws ever closer.
Third-placed Swansea fought back through Jamal Lowe’s penalty and a strike from Liam Cullen to rescue a 2-2 draw against rock-bottom Wycombe, who had taken an early second half lead through Admiral Muskwe and Garath McCleary.
Fourth-placed Brentford meanwhile found themselves held to a goalless home draw against Millwall, which meant that Norwich were promoted by virtue of the Swans and Bees both not winning prior to their game against Bournemouth.
Arnault Danjuma however dampened the hosts’ celebrations with a goal and assist as Bournemouth came from behind for a 3-1 away win after Norwich’s Dimitris Giannoulis was sent off following Emiliano Buendia’s opener.
Watford remain eight points behind the Canaries in second after suffering a shock defeat at Kenilworth Road, as James Collins’ 78th minute penalty gave Luton a narrow win in the Bedford/Hertfordshire derby.
Barnsley round out the top six despite suffering defeat at Coventry City as goals from Dominic Hyam and Matty Godden gave the Robins victory.
Reading remain seventh but now sit four points off the play-offs after Yakou Meite’s last-gasp header rescued the Royals a 1-1 draw at home against Cardiff, after Kieffer Moore’s penalty had put the visitors ahead following Omar Richards’ foul.
Down in the relegation zone, Rotherham suffered a narrow defeat on Thursday evening to Coventry through Leo Ostigard’s header, which was followed on Sunday with another one goal loss as Harlee Dean headed in a late winner for Birmingham City.
Rotherham consequently now sit four points adrift of safety with six games left, of which two games are in hand on their relegation rivals.
Tyreeq Bakinson rifled in a late equaliser as Bristol City snatched a 1-1 draw at second-bottom Sheffield Wednesday, having conceded an early headed goal from Julian Borner before Henri Lansbury saw red for handball.
Elsewhere, quick-fire goals from Rob Dickie and Lee Wallace saw QPR leapfrog Middlesbrough into 10th with a 2-1 win despite Yannick Bolasie’s consolatory header, before Seny Dieng saw red for a reckless lunge on Duncan Watmore.
Sam Gallagher and Harvey Elliott produced comeback goals as Blackburn came from behind to defeat Derby at Ewood Park, having fell behind to Tom Lawrence’s 22nd minute header.
Goals from Aaron Rowe and Juninho Bacuna saw Huddersfield comfortably defeat Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Finally, Stoke scrapped their way to a goalless home draw against Preston despite seeing Harry Souttar dismissed for denying Alan Browne a goal scoring opportunity when through on goal.
