Hege Riise has named a 24-woman squad for next month’s international friendlies against France and Canada.
Birmingham City’s Hannah Hampton has been dropped with Chelsea’s Carly Telford called up to replace the 20 year-old.
OL Reign loanee, Karen Bardsley has also earned a surprise recall as Riise plumps for four goalkeepers in her April selection.
Captain, Steph Houghton is ruled out with an Achilles injury and has been replaced by her Manchester City teammate, Demi Stokes.
Millie Turner is back in the squad after initially being omitted from February’s squad until she replaced the injured Millie Bright, after the Chelsea defender withdrew from the squad but has also been handed a recall for this squad selection.
Niamh Charles has also been called up in defence after being snubbed in February’s selection.
Manchester United’s Ella Toone has been omitted from midfield with no replacement called up, leaving just four midfielders of; Jordan Nobbs, Jill Scott, Georgia Stanway and Keira Walsh.
Arsenal’s Beth Mead returns after her shock initial snub last month by Riise prior to Chelsea’s Fran Kirby’s withdrawal through injury, which saw Mead named as a replacement call-up after little game time saw her initially left out of the squad.
Speaking on her selection, Riise wants these two fixtures against France and Canada to challenge the squad, which she has described as ‘crucial’ for each player’s hopes of participating in this summer’s Olympics.
Riise also spoke of monitoring on players across other home nations ahead of naming her shortlisted Olympics selection next month, saying; ” I’ve also been watching very closely those players from the home nations who are in contention for the GB squad and I will continue to do so right up until we shortlist next month.”
England will visit France on Friday 9 April in Caen before hosting Canada four days later at the BET365 Stadium in Stoke, with both matches televised live on BBC Four.
