Manchester City look to book their place in the Quarter-Finals for a fourth consecutive season as they host Borussia Monchengladbach at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
Man City simply need to avoid a three goal defeat to advance whereas Borussia Monchengladbach must score at least twice without conceding to force extra time, if not three or more goals to win the tie on away goals if level come full time.
Team News
Nathan Ake is ruled out for Man City as he continues to rebuild his match fitness after a lengthy muscle injury.
Borussia Monchengladbach could be without Ramy Bensebaini and Christoph Kramer due to muscle and ligament injuries.
Famana Quizera (shoulder) meanwhile is definitely ruled out of this match.
Stat Attack
- Man City have lost one of seven previous matches against Borussia Monchengladbach (W4, D2, L1).
- Borussia Monchengladbach are winless in three previous away games against Man City (D1, L2).
- City have scored three goals in each of their three ‘home’ Champions League games this season, with Ferran Torres scoring once in each of those three matches.
Prediction
Man City will be up for this after their simply dominant performance at Fulham on Saturday across both open play and set pieces, especially with high energy and sharp intelligent runs into the box which made life incredibly tough for the Cottagers defensively.
Borussia Monchengladbach therefore has to step up and play at their absolute maximum quality from the get-go here, yet they have lost their last six matches and are winless in their last nine across all competitions making a comeback looking unlikely.
I therefore can see just one result coming if City are able to come here and deliver another ruthless display, especially knowing that all the pressure in this match is on Monchengladbach to win here and I just can’t see them winning this.
Prediction: Manchester City 2-0 Borussia Monchengladbach
Result: Manchester City 2-0 Borussia Monchengladbach (Manchester City win 4-0 on aggregate!!)
