2020-21 Premier League: Week 24 – Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester City welcome Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur to the Etihad Stadium in a tasty Saturday teatime clash from the Premier League.

Victory will put Man City eight points clear of second-placed Manchester United at the summit, whereas Spurs can go fifth with victory.

Ruben Dias is a doubt for Man City after missing Wednesday’s FA Cup win at Swansea with a stomach complaint.

Fernando (quad) and Rodri (ankle) are doubts and could join Sergio Aguero (fitness), Kevin De Bruyne (hamstring) and Nathan Ake (muscle) on sidelines.

Tottenham could welcome Serge Aurier back from a knock which kept him out of Wednesday’s dramatic FA Cup exit at Everton.

Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon (both muscle) and Giovani Lo Celso (thigh) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Manchester City are unbeaten in three of their last five Premier League meetings against Tottenham (W2, D1, L2).
  • Tottenham have won just one of their last five league trips to the Etihad Stadium (W1, D2, L2).
  • City’s Raheem Sterling has scored three goals in two of his last three matches against Spurs.
  • No outfield Man City player has made an error which led to a conceded league goal this season.
  • Lucas Moura has been utilised as a substitute on more occasions than any other Tottenham player this season in the league, having been brought on from the bench on 12 different occasions.

Prediction

Man City just look unstoppable at present despite the constant flurry of fixtures and Kevin De Bruyne’s injury, so will definitely be coming here looking to pile more misery on Tottenham who have been inconsistent in recent weeks.

Tottenham meanwhile have to hit back to silence critics and ensure Wednesday’s messy FA Cup performance at Everton was just a blip, otherwise their defence could be in for a battering unless Jose Mourinho can get his defence to park a bus and sit deep protecting goal.

Either way, this should be an entertaining game with guaranteed goals because Tottenham do look stronger on the attack, although I am plumping for a comfortable home win even if they leak just one goal.

Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Result: Manchester City 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur
