Cardiff Sack Neil Harris After 14 Months in Charge

Cardiff City have announced that Neil Harris has stepped down as manager of the men’s First Team ‘with immediate effect.’

Harris’ departure comes following six consecutive defeats for the Bluebirds in all competitions, including a Third Round exit in 2020-21 FA Cup away at Nottingham Forest.

Assistant manager, David Livermore has also been dismissed with Cardiff now commencing their third search for a new manager in five years, with Harris’ departure coming just 14 months after he replaced Neil Warnock, who has now gone on to become Middlesbrough’s manager.

Cardiff City Owner, Vincent Tan released the following statement in relation to the decision to terminate Harris and Livermore’s contracts, saying; “I’d like to thank Neil and David sincerely for their hard work at Cardiff City.”

Tan acknowledged their efforts to guide the Bluebirds to a fifth-placed finish and eventual Play-Off semi-final exit against Fulham but iterated that the club are in a sport that is “result-orientated” and described results plus progress as “very poor” with just eight wins in all competitions, which left Tan with “no choice” other than “… to relieve them of their duties in an effort to improve results and league position” through a change of club management in the dugout.

Tan however placed on record his best wishes to Harris and Livermore for the future, saying; “I’d like to personally wish Neil and David the very best with their future undertakings and endeavours. They will always be welcome faces at Cardiff City Stadium and I wish them good luck and good health.”

Cardiff confirmed that a manager will be appointed in due course with no interim manager announced for the short-term, as the Bluebirds who currently sit 15th in the Championship prepare for their trip to Barnsley on Wednesday 27 January 2021 with view of mounting a late fightback to overturn a 13 point deficit for the final play-off spot currently occupied by Bournemouth.
