PSG Sack Thomas Tuchel

Paris Saint-Germain have sacked Thomas Tuchel following ‘an in-depth analysis’ of the club’s current direction.

Tuchel’s departure comes as PSG currently sit third in Ligue One with just one defeat in their last nine matches across all competitions, whilst also progressing to the knockout stage of this season’s Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) bosses however have undertaken ‘an in-depth analysis’ of the club’s ‘sporting situation, with the conclusion seeing Tuchel dismissed as manager despite sitting just a point off the Ligue One summit with a better goal difference than Lyon and Lille who sit above them.

Speaking on the decision to part company with Tuchel, PSG’s Chairman and CEO – Nasser Al-Khelaifi said; “I would like to thank Thomas Tuchel and his staff for all they have contributed to the club.

“Thomas has put a lot of energy and passion into the job, and we will of course remember the good moments we shared together. I wish him all the best for the future.”

Tuchel replaced Unai Emery in July 2018 and led PSG to 95 wins, 12 draws and 20 defeats in 127 games under his management across all competitions, with two Ligue 1 and Trophees de Champions titles, alongside one Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue crown as well.

Tuchel’s reign at PSG will perhaps be most remembered for the club reaching a first UEFA Champions League Final in August, where they lost to Bayern Munich as Kingsley Coman netted the winner against his former team of 2013-14 season where he made just three appearances.

Tuchel is the first PSG manager to be sacked mid-season since Antoine Kombouare was fired in December 2011, with two of PSG’s last three sackings during a season occurring during December.

PSG will announce Tuchel’s successor in due course with ex Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino considered the favourite to take over at the Parc des Princes.
