Norwich City goalkeeper, Tim Krul has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract, keeping him at Carrow Road until June 2024.

Since arriving at the Canaries in July 2018, Krul helped the team to promotion in his first season for the club only to suffer instant relegation last season from the Premier League back to the Sky Bet Championship.

Speaking on how “proud” he is to extend his stay in East Anglia, Krul said; “I’m excited to commit my future to Norwich and have had an amazing two and half years already at this club, so I’m excited to add another three and a half years to that.”

Krul also spoke on the club’s future plans after helping them to the Quarter-Finals of last season’s FA Cup, saying; “The plan the club has got for the next few years is exciting and there’s some young exciting talent coming through the ranks as well.

“From top to bottom, it’s a club I want to be at; one that’s run really well from Michael {Wynn-Jones} and Delia {Smith} to the kitman. It’s an exciting time for the club for sure.”

Having a “great relationship” with passionate Norwich fans and the club itself was another factor in Krul’s decision to stay, as he said; “As a player, you want to be loved and I’ve got a great relationship with the fans. The club giving me this three-and-a-half-year contract shows the belief they’ve still got with me.”

Norwich manager, Daniel Farke described Krul’s new contract agreement as “fantastic news” given the Dutch goalkeeper’s qualities, and hailed him as one of the Championship’s best, saying; “He’s by far the best goalkeeper in this league and was impressive in the Premier League.”

Farke also spoke on Krul’s experience and international chances with Netherlands for the postponed Euro 2020 next summer, saying; “He’s so important for the dressing room and development of our young players. I think he has a good chance to play as Netherlands number one in the next tournament.”

Krul however is approaching the end of his career at 32 years-old but Farke believes that he still has many more seasons to offer, as he explained; “He’s still in a really good age for a goalkeeper and can play many more years.”

Norwich currently sit top of the Championship and visit Watford on Boxing Day, minus Krul who is sidelined with a thigh injury.
