Reading welcome Norwich to the Madejski Stadium in Wednesday’s huge Sky Bet Championship clash.
Should Swansea fail to beat Derby in Wednesday’s early kick-off, Reading can go third with victory whilst Norwich need at least one point to reclaim top spot from Bournemouth.
Lucas Joao, Yakou Meite and George Puscas could be unavailable for Reading due to suffering various knocks in recent matches.
Andy Yiadom, Felipe Araruna (both knee) and John Swift (hamstring) remain absent with no set return dates.
Norwich have no fresh injury concerns to report after Saturday’s away win at Blackburn Rovers as Kieran Dowell remains absent, although the ex Everton midfielder is nearly ready for a first team return after three month out with an ankle injury.
Tim Krul (thigh), Lukas Rupp, Przemyslaw Placheta (both hamstring), Ben Gibson (calf), Onel Hernandez (groin) and Xavi Quintilla (hip) all remain sidelined, although Krul, Rupp, Gibson and Placheta could all be in contention for upcoming games if can quickly regain match fitness.
- Reading are winless in their last five meetings against Norwich (D1, L4).
- Norwich have won two of their last seven Championship clashes away at Reading (W2, D2, L4).
- Lucas Joao has scored in two of Reading’s last three home games (W2, L1).
Reading have found their form again in recent weeks but to lose Joao and Meite for this clash would a big blow because those two are obvious goal threats so I am expecting a slightly more defensive performance from Reading than normal here, although it represents a chance for Sone Aluko to step up given his experience.
Norwich meanwhile have had to really dig in over recent weeks and I have a feeling that it could be more of the same here but potentially without Joao and Meite, Reading could be vulnerable given that the Canaries have avoided defeat in their last five clashes against the Royals.
This could therefore be a tight encounter but I fancy Norwich to claim a comfortable win because they are currently in strong form whereas Reading have been inconsistent but getting points lately.
Prediction: Reading 0-2 Norwich
Result: Reading 1-2 Norwich
