2020-21 UEFA Europa League Group Stage: Leicester vs AEK Athens

Leicester City welcome AEK Athens to King Power Stadium in their concluding Group G clash of 2020-21 UEFA Europa League.

Victory will see Leicester advance as group winners, whereas AEK Athens can potentially avoid finishing of the group with a win if Zorya Luhansk lose to Braga.

Leicester have no fresh injury concerns to report after Sunday’s Premier League win at Sheffield United.

Timothy Castagne (hamstring) and Ricardo Pereira (groin) are weeks away from making their returns, whereas Daniel Amartey (ankle) and Caglar Soyuncu (groin) are sidelined indefinitely with no set return dates, although both players should return within the next month.

AEK Athens’s only absentee is Emmanuel Insua who is suspended after picking up his third booking of the season against Braga last week.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester won their only previous meeting against AEK Athens, defeating the Greek opposition 2-1 in late October in Athens.
  • AEK Athens have won one of five previous away trips at English opposition (W1, L4).
  • Kelechi Iheanacho has scored three goals across Leicester’s two home Group G matches this season.

Prediction

After a shaky couple of weeks, Leicester put in a strong performance at Sheffield United but again wasted shots despite their dominance which is definitely a worry, although Jamie Vardy did snatch them a late winner so if they can carry that confidence boost into this match then this could be another strong performance.

AEK Athens are eliminated but they can be quite unpredictable when they want to be as evidenced by various contrasting results in the group, which is something that Brendan Rogers’ Foxes will need to be wary of but I genuinely can see a home win if the Foxes get stuck in with a strong attacking display and take their chances clinically.

Prediction: Leicester 3-0 AEK Athens

Result: Leicester 2-0 AEK Athens
