2020-21 Premier League: Week Eleven – West Brom v Crystal Palace

West Bromwich Albion continue their search for survival as they welcome Crystal Palace to The Hawthorns in the first of a Super Sunday quadruple header.

Victory could lift West Brom out of the relegation zone whilst Palace could go as high as 11th with a win.

Jake Livermore and Kieran Gibbs are set to return for West Brom after sitting out last weekend’s win over Sheffield United with fitness issues, following recent self-isolation with positive Coronavirus results.

Conor Townsend is out for six weeks with a knee injury but Sam Field is nearing a return from his own knee within the next few games, although he is unlikely to be risked here.

Crystal Palace look set to welcome Luka Milivojevic and Wilfried Zaha back from self-isolation after recent positive Coronavirus tests.

Conor Wickham, Wayne Hennessey (both unspecified) and Nathan Ferguson (knee) remain sidelined.

Stat Attack

  • West Brom have won just one of their last five competitive in-season meetings against Crystal Palace (W1, D1, L3).
  • Palace have lost just one of their last six trips to The Hawthorns in all competitions (W3, D2, L1).
  • There has been only one red card in 12 previous Premier League meetings between West Brom and Crystal Palace, with the sending off falling Palace’s way.
  • No West Brom player has been caught offside more times this season than Matheus Pereira, who has been offside on six occasions in nine appearances.
  • Christian Benteke is Palace’s most used substitute this season, having come off the bench on six occasions this season.

Prediction

West Brom were impressive in their win over Sheffield United last weekend in how they took their chances and defended well against a barrage of second-half attacks from the Blades, which will stand them in good stead here.

Palace meanwhile were as fierce as ever against Newcastle in the attacking department but were ultimately undone by a solid defensive display as the Magpies clinically unlocked them in the final moments of the match.

I am therefore expecting a tight cagey affair here between two attacking teams but the Baggies have struggled in this fixture lately, which is a bad omen.

Prediction: WBA 0-1 Crystal Palace
