2019-20 FA Cup Quarter Finals: Leicester vs Chelsea

Leicester City welcome Chelsea to the King Power Stadium as both teams look to book a semi-final place at Wembley.

Leicester are looking to reach their first FA Cup semi-final since 1981-82 season, as they come up against Chelsea who are now under four-time FA Cup Blues winner – Frank Lampard.

Leicester have no fresh injury concerns with Daniel Amartey (ankle) and Ricardo Pereira (knee) still absent.

Chelsea could have Callum Hudson-Odoi available after a recent ankle injury but Fikayo Tomori (muscle) and Marco van Ginkel (knee) remain sidelined.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester are winless in eight previous FA Cup meetings against Chelsea (D2, L6).
  • Chelsea have scored twice in their three previous FA Cup trips to Leicester, going on to win the competition in last two such occasions in 1996-97 and 2017-18 seasons.
  • Leicester are unbeaten in their last four meetings against Chelsea in all competitions (W1, D3).
  • Just one of Chelsea’s six FA Cup goals this season have come from a defender – Fikayo Tomori in Fourth Round away at Hull.
  • Leicester are yet to concede a FA Cup goal this season, having achieved clean sheets over Wigan, Brentford and Birmingham en route to this stage.

Prediction

Out of all four quarter-final ties, this looks the most unpredictable because there isn’t much to separate these two teams on the pitch nor Premier League if look at the table.

I however do wonder if the Leicester players have one eye on this fixture after a drab midweek home display against Brighton, given that this is surely their best chance of a trophy if they win and the other big guns fall elsewhere.

Chelsea meanwhile reminded me of Leicester’s best qualities in their win over Man City, particularly in terms of pace on the counter-attack so if produce a similar performance matched by a more traditional Foxes’ effort then this could be a cracker.

I therefore reckon that we are in for an entertaining game and if anything like recent meetings then extra time will be needed, which might give Chelsea the edge based on better head-to-head record.

Prediction: Leicester City 1-2 Chelsea (AET)

Result: Leicester City 0-1 Chelsea
