2019-20 Premier League: Week 30 Roundup

Liverpool moved closer to the crown but their destiny is no longer in their own hands, as team returned to Premier League action after a three month lockdown.

Liverpool found themselves held to a goalless draw by Everton in the Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park, in which the Toffees went closest when Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s back heel flick missed the bottom right corner and Tom Davies’ rebound bounced off the left post.

Manchester City further delayed Liverpool’s crowning moment after thrashing Burnley 5-0 in which Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez both scored braces, following their three goal catch-up victory over Arsenal last Wednesday.

Liverpool therefore can’t win the title on Wednesday at home to Crystal Palace, although defeat for City at Chelsea on Thursday evening will gift the Reds the title.

Leicester stay third after Ben Chilwell’s opener was cancelled out by Craig Dawson’s bicycle kick, as Watford came from behind to snatch a last gasp point.

Second-half goals from Christian Pulisic and Oliver Giroud were enough for Chelsea to remain in fourth place, having initially fallen behind to Kourtney Hause’s strike for second-bottom Villa.

A late Bruno Fernandes penalty rescued fifth-placed Manchester United a point at Tottenham, who led through a 27th minute goal for Steven Bergwijn after the Dutchman latched onto a loose ball.

Wolves stay sixth after defeating West Ham in a two goal display of which Adama Traore set up Raul Jimenez’s headed opener, before setting up Matt Doherty to cross for Pedro Neto to slot in.

Sheffield United round out the top seven after drawing at Villa in their catch-up game, prior to a three goal battering at Newcastle in which John Egan was sent off after two yellow card incidents involving him and Joelinton.

Elsewhere, Neal Maupay chipped in a late winner for Brighton as the Seagulls came from behind to defeat Arsenal after Nicolas Pepe’s opener was cancelled out by Lewis Dunk.

Southampton comfortably thrashed rock-bottom Norwich in a three goal second-half display, as Danny Ings scored first before setting up Stuart Armstrong and Nathan Redmond’s goals.

Finally, first-half goals from Luka Milivojevic and Jordan Ayew saw Crystal Palace defeat third-bottom Bournemouth in BBC’s first live Premier League broadcast.
