2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week 37 Roundup

Leeds United move back top following a dramatic weekend of drama affecting both ends of the Sky Bet Championship table.

West Bromwich Albion entered this weekend on top but were held to a goalless draw at Swansea, allowing Leeds to move above them into top spot after goals from Luke Ayling and Patrick Bamford were enough to defeat Huddersfield at Elland Road.

Fulham slipped six points behind the Baggies after Tom Cairney’s late strike rescued them a point at Bristol City, who had taken the lead from Nakhi Wells’ close range header.

Bees

Josh Dasilva’s brace helped Brentford climb to fourth as the Bees battered Sheffield Wednesday in a dominant five goal display.

Nottingham Forest consequently slipped to fifth after a first-half Matt Smith hat-trick gifted Millwall victory at the City Ground.

Preston again round out the top six despite seeing Daniel Johnson’s penalty opener overturned by QPR, who came from behind to take a 3-1 win at Deepdale.

Down in the relegation zone, Luton moved off the bottom after holding Wigan to a goalless draw at the DW Stadium.

Barnsley therefore prop up the table after quick second-half goals from Will Vaulks and Callum Paterson gifted Cardiff victory at Oakwell.

Charlton fell into the last relegation spot after losing to Middlesbrough, who took a important win through Paddy McNair’s 17th minute strike after picking up Rudy Gestede’s pass.

Elsewhere, Chris Martin netted a brace as Derby dished out a three goal thumping to Blackburn Rovers, moving the Rams to within five points of the Play-Off spots.

Stoke City took a dominant 5-1 win over Hull with Nick Powell and Sam Clucas both scoring braces.

Finally, Reading produced a three goal second-half fightback to defeat Birmingham City 3-1 at St Andrew’s.
