2019-20 Premier League: Week 29 – Leicester City vs Aston Villa

Leicester City welcome Aston Villa to the King Power Stadium in Monday Night Football, as both teams look for a win at opposite ends of the Premier League table.

Leicester can move to within four points of second-placed Manchester City with a win, whilst Villa know that only victory would lift them out of the relegation zone at Watford’s expense.

Jamie Vardy is in contention to start for Leicester after recovering from a minor calf injury, which had sidelined him for the Foxes’ last two matches.

Ben Chilwell (hamstring) is a doubt whilst Nampalys Mendy (knee) and Daniel Amartey (ankle) remain ruled out.

Villa are expected to have Jack Grealish available for selection after recovering from cramp in his calf towards the end of last Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final loss to Manchester City.

John McGinn (ankle) is a doubt for this match but should be fit for Saturday’s clash against Chelsea.

Jed Steer (calf), Tom Heaton and Wesley (both knee) remain long-term absentees.

Form

Leicester enter this match with just one win in their last seven league games (W1, D2, L4), whilst failing to keep a clean sheet in their last six home outings.

Villa head into this clash with just one win in their last six league matches (W1, D1, L4), although the Villains have failed to keep a clean sheet on the road all season in all competitions.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester are unbeaten in their last four league meetings against Aston Villa (W3, D1).
  • Villa have won two of their last five trips to the King Power Stadium in all competitions (W2, D1, L2).
  • Leicester haven’t kept a clean sheet in their las six matches against Villa in all competitions.
  • Neither team scored a penalty in 21 previous Premier League meetings, with Leicester missing their penalty unlike Villa who are yet to receive a penalty in this Premier League fixture.
  • Both teams have received three red cards in 21 previous Premier League meetings.

Prediction

Leicester look like a team who have become complacent in recent weeks based on recent for, which is a worry given that the chasing pack are now within grasp of the Foxes who seem more focused on the FA Cup.

Villa meanwhile produced a great defensive performance to achieve a respectable Carabao Cup Final loss to Man City, yet they continue to give away cheap goals and are in similar league form to Leicester.

I therefore am hoping to see an improved attacking display from both teams, and especially from Villa if the relegation fight comes down to goals scored come May but Leicester should have enough for the win here.

Prediction: Leicester City 2-1 Aston Villa

Result: Leicester City 4-0 Aston Villa
