2019-20 Premier League: Week 29 – Wolves vs Brighton

Wolverhampton Wanderers continue their bid for a top four finish as they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Molineux.

A win could temporarily send Wolves as high as fourth whilst Brighton can move clear of the relegation zone if they take victory.

Adama Traore is expected to be in contention for Wolves despite suffering a shoulder injury in last Sunday’s win at Tottenham.

Morgan Gibbs-White is doubtful with an unspecified injury whilst Jonny is still sidelined with a foot injury.

Brighton will have Shane Duffy back in contention after he sat out the Seagulls’ defeat against Crystal Palace last Saturday through personal reasons.

Jose Izquierdo is still sidelined with a long-term knee injury.

Form

Wolves enter this match with one defeat in their last seven league outings (W3, D3, L1), including three clean sheets in their last four domestic games.

Brighton head to Molineux without a win in their last eight league matches (D5, L3), whilst failing to keep a clean sheet in all eight games since defeating Bournemouth 2-0 just before New Year.

Stat Attack

  • Wolves are winless in three previous Premier League meetings against Brighton (D2, L1).
  • Brighton are unbeaten in their last five trips to Wolves (W1, D4)
  • Two of last three meetings at Molineux has finished goalless, with exception of 1-0 win for Brighton in April 2017.
  • There has been no penalties in three previous Premier League meetings between Wolves and Brighton.
  • Neal Maupay is the only Brighton player to have scored a penalty this season.

Prediction

Wolves were simply brilliant at Tottenham because they stuck to their strategy even after conceding twice, pressing higher up the pitch to eventually wear Spurs down with a excellent counter-attack winner.

Brighton meanwhile continue to lack the firepower to win games which will be a real concern against a confident Wolves team, and I therefore can see Wolves finally getting that first Premier League win over the Seagulls.

Prediction: Wolves 2-0 Brighton

Result: Wolves 0-0 Brighton
