2019-20 Premier League: Week 29 – Burnley vs Tottenham

Burnley welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Turf Moor as both teams look to continue their bids for European football next season.

A win for Burnley could potentially lift them above Spurs into seventh if Sheffield United lose elsewhere, whilst Tottenham could go fifth with victory and results elsewhere swinging in their favour.

Burnley have no fresh injury concerns to report as Ashley Barnes nears a return from a hernia injury, although the striker is unlikely to be risked here. 

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (hamstring) is also unlikely to feature whilst Matt Lowton (knee) and Ben Gibson (fitness) are ruled out. 

Tottenham are hoping to have Hugo Lloris, Juan Foyth (both groin) and Ryan Sessegnon (hip) available for selection. 

Son Heung-min (arm), Harry Kane (hamstring) and Moussa Sissoko (knee) remain ruled out.

Burnley enter this match on a six league match unbeaten run (W4, D2), whilst keeping clean sheets in their last two home outings against Arsenal and Bournemouth.

Tottenham are winless in their last four games across all competitions, whilst keeping just one clean sheet in their 14 away league trips this season.

Prediction

Wednesday’s FA Cup defeat has highlighted Spurs’ lack of squad depth because several players look like they’re just going through the motions with little confidence, which is a real worry coming into a game like this against an in-form team like Burnley. 

Burnley’s defence however is back to its best and unless Tottenham come out rejuvenated and with a point to prove, I can see Burnley quickly taking control and dominating this match. 

Throw in the fact that Spurs have a must-win Champions League trip to RB Leipzig in midweek, then I can see them pushing for a goal for confidence sake but it won’t be enough to avoid defeat.
