2019-20 Premier League: Week 28 – Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a blockbuster clash in the top five race. 

A win could send Spurs fifth if Man Utd lose away at Everton, whilst Wolves could leapfrog their opposition plus the Red Devils into fifth themselves if they take victory.

Juan Foyth is a doubt for Tottenham with a groin strain but will be subject to a late fitness test. 

Ryan Sessegnon (hip) joins Son Heung-min (arm), Moussa Sissoko (knee) and Harry Kane (hamstring) on the indefinite injury list. 

Wolves have no fresh injury concerns to report as Jonny remains out with a knock to his ankle suffered last Sunday against Norwich.

Tottenham saw their four match unbeaten run ended at Chelsea last weekend (W3, D1, L1), but haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last five home matches. 

Wolves enter this match with one defeat in their last six league games (W2, D3, L1), although they have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight away trips in all competitions.

 

Stat Attack

• Tottenham have lost just one of their last seven league meetings against Wolves (W4, D2, L1). 
• Wolves’ last six goals v Spurs have all come in the second half of their last three clashes, since the Midlands club returned to the top flight last season. 
• Lucas Moura has scored in each of his last two starts for Tottenham against Wolves, albeit both came at Molineux whilst he replaced Dele Alli in this home fixture as a sub last season. 
• Both teams have scored in each of their last four meetings, with Spurs scoring first in their last three meetings.
• Wolves have received the only red card dished out in 11 previous Premier League clashes against Tottenham, which was collected by Paul Ince for a second yellow card offence in May 2004 during a 2-0 home defeat.  

 

Prediction

Tottenham were poor at Chelsea last weekend with very little to offer other than Erik Lamela’s late goal, which is a real concern given that Wolves like to press hard and have been ruthless in recent matches. 

I therefore feel that we need to see major improvement on the attack from Spurs, otherwise their defence is going to need to be rock solid otherwise I can see just one result here.
