Tottenham Hotspur face a tough test of their top five hopes as they welcome Manchester City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the closing Super Sunday match.
Tottenham can climb to fifth with a win whilst Man City look to reduce their deficit to Liverpool back down to 19 points in the title race.
Team news
Embed from Getty ImagesTottenham have no fresh injury concerns as Ben Davies remains sidelined until after the winter break with an ankle injury.
Moussa Sissoko and Harry Kane are still ruled out until April at the earliest.
Manchester City could have Aymeric Laporte available after missing their last two matches with fatigue, as he continues to slowly ease himself back into first-team action after a lengthy knee injury.
Fernando and Benjamin Mendy are ruled out with fitness issues whilst Leroy Sane remains sidelined with an ongoing knee injury, although the German could return after City’s winter break.
Form
Tottenham enter this match with just one win in their last five league matches (W1, D2, L2), although they have taken nine points from their last five home outings (W3, L2).
Man City are unbeaten in their last five league games (W4, D1), yet have kept just two clean sheets in their last five away trips of which one came at Spurs’ local rivals – Arsenal in December.
Stat Attack
- Tottenham have taken just one point from their last five league meetings with Manchester City (D1, L4).
- Man City’s Raheem Sterling has scored three goals across two of his last three appearances against Tottenham in all competitions.
- Tottenham have taken six points from their last five home league games against Man City (W2, L3).
- There has been just one draw in the last 16 meetings between these teams in North London in all competitions, which came in August 2010 courtesy of a goalless draw.
- Neither team has a perfect penalty record in this Premier League fixture with Tottenham scoring just two of their five penalties, compared to five in seven for City.
Prediction
Tottenham have been inconsistent in recent weeks without Kane which is a concern coming into a fixture like this, whereas Man City weren’t clinical enough on Wednesday so I am expecting the Citizens to hit back here with a fiery performance.
Tottenham however are difficult to call given their overall inconsistency yet slightly better home form, which makes me think that we are set for a tough battle here but I am going for an away win here because City are much stronger than Spurs at present.
Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Manchester City
