Burnley welcome Arsenal to Turf Moor in a tasty opening Super Sunday clash, as both teams look to continue their bids for an Europa League spot.
Currently locked on 30 points apiece, a win for either team will see them climb back into the top ten although Arsenal will go into ninth if they take victory.
Team news
Embed from Getty ImagesPhil Bardsley is set to be available for Burnley after recovering from a lower back injury.
Ben Gibson (groin) is also expected to be in contention but Johann Berg Gudmundsson (hamstring) and Ashley Barnes (hernia) remain ruled out.
Arsenal will have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and David Luiz available as they both return from respective three and one match bans.
Sead Kolasinac (hamstring) and Shkodran Mustafi (ankle) are also in contention, whereas new signing – Cedric Soares (knee) joins Kieran Tierney (shoulder) and Calum Chambers (knee) on sidelines.
Form
Burnley enter this match off the back of wins in their last two league games, whilst failing to score in just one of their last seven home games in all competitions.
Arsenal have lost just one of their six league games so far under Mikel Arteta (W1, D4, L1), despite failing to keep a clean sheet in four away trips in all competitions under the Spaniard.
Stat Attack
- Burnley have taken just one point from 11 previous Premier League meetings against Arsenal (D1, L10).
- Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored six goals in his last four appearances against Burnley.
- Ashley Barnes has scored for Burnley in each of their last two clashes against Arsenal.
- Both teams have scored both of their two penalties in this Premier League fixture.
- Burnley are yet to have a player sent off against Arsenal in 11 previous Premier League meetings.
Prediction
Burnley were just defensively brilliant in their last two league matches against Leicester and Manchester United, so I can see more of the same here because Arsenal are a dangerous team when they are on the front foot.
Aubameyang in particular is going to be a player which Burnley need to be wary of because he will be keen to get straight back in amongst the goals, having served a three match ban and has strong goal-scoring form against the Clarets.
Arsenal however aren’t exactly strong defensively and yet to win a league game on the road under Arteta, so I am expecting goals here and I do feel that Burnley might spring a surprise given their recent performances but a draw would be a good result.
Prediction: Burnley 2-1 Arsenal
