2019-20 Premier League: Week 21 Roundup

Liverpool remain top of the Premier League after a crazy round of New Year fixtures, as teams scrapped to finish the festive fortnight on a high.

Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s opener before teeing up Sadio Mane to slot in their second, as the Reds beat Sheffield United to maintain their 13 point lead at the top from Leicester City. 

Hamza Choudhury scored his first senior goal for Leicester as the Foxes crushed Newcastle in a three goal display at St James’ Park.

Manchester City stay a point behind Leicester after Gabriel Jesus’ brace downed Everton, despite Richarlison’s late consolation goal as Carlo Ancelotti suffered his first defeat as Toffees Manager.

Chelsea stay fourth despite seeing Cesar Azpilicueta’s strike cancelled out by Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s bicycle kick in a 1-1 draw at Brighton.

Down in the relegation zone, Norwich stay rock bottom after Conor Wickham’s tap-in snatched a point for Crystal Palace to cancel out Todd Cantwell’s opener.

Goals from Gerard Deulofeu and Abdoulaye Doucoure secured Watford a 2-1 win over Wolves, as the Hornets remain second bottom but now two points off safety.

Bournemouth slipped into the bottom three for the first time since December 2017, after receiving a four goal thrashing from West Ham as David Moyes returned for a second stint in charge of the Hammers.

Elsewhere, first half strikes from Nicolas Pepe and Sokratis Papastathopoulos helped Arsenal beat Manchester United to record their first win under Mikel Arteta.

Aston Villa climbed out of the relegation zone after first half goals from Wesley and Jack Grealish were enough to edge the Villains past Burnley, who fought back with a late header from Chris Wood.

Finally, Danny Ings’ 17th minute effort proved enough for Southampton to stun Tottenham Hotspur.
