2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week 26 – Thursday

Swansea welcome a struggling Charlton Athletic to the Liberty Stadium as the opening round of Championship fixtures in 2020 draws to a close.

A win will send Swansea sixth whilst Charlton could climb to 17th if they take victory and Derby lose to Barnsley.

Mike van der Hoorn is doubtful for Swansea with a knee injury which saw him miss their festive games against Brentford and Barnsley.

Jordan Garrick (hamstring) and Joe Rodon (ankle) remain long-term absentees.

Charlton will be without Macauley Bonne after the striker suffered a hamstring strain during Monday’s defeat at Derby.

Jonathan Leko (knee) is ruled out for remainder of this season whilst Tomer Hemed, Beram Kayal (both groin), Jonny Williams, Jake Forster-Caskey (both hamstring), Josh Cullen (knee), Sam Field (knee), George Lapslie and Ben Amos (finger) are sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Chuks Aneke and Lewis Page are back in training but won’t be rushed back from injury.

Stat Attack

  • Swansea have lost just one of five previous league meetings against Charlton (W2, D2, L1).
  • Charlton have never won away at Swansea since the Welsh club adopted the ‘City’ name (D1, L3).
  • Swansea have scored 16 goals in 13 home games this season, three less than the 16 goals scored across same period last season.

Prediction

Charlton will be disappointed to have not taken a point at ten-men Derby on Monday but this is a huge chance because Swansea’s home form has been inconsistent in recent weeks.

I therefore am expecting a good battle here but Charlton’s injury crisis is still a deep concern, although Swansea should be able to eventually produce a convincing win given their forward quality.

Prediction: Swansea City 2-0 Charlton Athletic

Result: Swansea City 1-0 Charlton Athletic
