2019-20 Premier League: Week 21 – Norwich vs Crystal Palace

Norwich look to build on a promising draw against Tottenham from the weekend as they welcome Crystal Palace to Carrow Road.

A win could move Norwich above Watford on goal difference if the Hornets lose elsewhere, whilst Palace look to temporarily move above Sheffield United into eighth.

Ralf Fahrmann is ruled out for Norwich with a muscle injury and will be replaced on the bench by Michael McGovern.

Josip Drmic (muscle) and Ben Godfrey (knee) are still sidelined for a few more weeks but Timm Klose (knee) remains a long-term absentee.

Palace could be without Martin Kelly after the defender played through injury in Saturday’s draw at Southampton.

Gary Cahill, Joel Ward (both knee), Scott Dann (calf), Patrick van Anholt (hamstring), Jeffrey Schlupp, Andros Townsend (both groin) and Christian Benteke (muscle) are all ruled out.

Stat Attack

  • Norwich have taken four points from their last five meetings against Crystal Palace, including defeats in each of their last three clashes (W1, D1, L3).
  • In four Premier League draws between these teams, only one draw has finished goalless which came in August 1994.
  • Norwich have scored once in each of their last five home games against Palace (W2, L3)
  • Both teams have scored 14 goals apiece from 11 Premier League meetings.
  • Norwich are yet to win a penalty against Palace in 11 Premier League meetings.

Prediction

Norwich produced an excellent attacking display against Tottenham on Saturday so were unlucky to concede from a free-kick then penalty, whilst VAR was quite harsh on them too at times.

Palace meanwhile did well to grind out a point despite their injury crisis but if Martin Kelly is injured and doesn’t feature, I really can’t see Palace mounting much other than a counter-attacking display which will suit Norwich nicely to pick up a win.

This however can be a tight encounter at times so I am going for a narrow home victory.

Prediction: Norwich City 1-0 Crystal Palace

Result: Norwich City 1-1 Crystal Palace
