2019-20 Premier League: Week 19 – Wolves vs Manchester City

Wolves look to continue their push for fifth as they welcome Manchester City to Molineux in Friday Night Football, which rounds out Amazon Prime’s first season of Premier League coverage.

A win for Wolves will send them fifth whilst Man City can leapfrog Leicester into second with victory here.

Wolves have no fresh injury concerns as Morgan Gibbs-White remains sidelined with a back injury.

Willy Boly is also ruled out as he continues to recover from a serious ankle injury.

Manchester City could have Kevin De Bruyne available after the midfielder suffered cramp in Saturday’s home win over Leicester.

Ilkay Gundogan (muscle) is also expected to feature but John Stones (hamstring) and David Silva (knock) are thought to not be ready in time for this match.

Leroy Sane and Aymeric remain long-term absentees with serious knee injuries.

Stat Attack

  • Wolves have taken seven points from their seven previous meetings with Manchester City this decade (W2, D1, L4).
  • Man City have kept clean sheets in just two of their last five trips to Molineux in all competitions.
  • Wolves’ Romain Saiss is just one of four players to have collected a joint league-high seven yellow cards so far this season.
  • Kevin De Bruyne has had the most touches out of all City players this campaign with 1,320 touches in 17 appearances.
  • Conor Coady is the only Wolves player to have conceded a penalty this season.

Prediction

Wolves definitely have a tough few days ahead with Man City and Liverpool fixtures within 48 hours of each other, so I think they need to pick their battles wisely and this looks more winnable.

Both teams produced excellent comebacks last weekend so I am expecting a tight game because Wolves will sit deep if needed, deploying the tactics which saw them win the reverse fixture in October.

City this time should be wiser though with more confidence and belief with them so I can see a draw here.

Prediction: Wolves 1-1 Manchester City

Result: Wolves 3-2 Manchester City
