2019-20 Premier League: Week 13 – Sheffield United vs Manchester United

Sheffield United play host to Manchester United in this weekend’s big Super Sunday clash at Bramall Lane.

A win will return the Blades to fifth whereas Man Utd could leapfrog them and go fifth themselves with victory.

Dean Henderson is ineligible for Sheffield United this weekend as they face his parent club.

John Egan could also miss out with a calf injury, although he will be given a late fitness test.

Manchester United could have Luke Shaw (hamstring), Nemanja Matic and Axel Tuanzebe (hip) available.

Marcos Rojo (muscle), Diogo Dalot (groin), Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (both knee) remain absent in defence until mid December.

Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay are also absent with ankle injuries.

Form

Sheffield United are unbeaten in their last five matches with two wins and three draws, whilst only conceding just three league goals at home all season.

Man Utd have taken five points from their last five league games (W1, D2, L2), but have won just once on the road in the league this season – 3-1 at Norwich last month.

Stat Attack

  • Sheffield United have lost their last five Premier League meetings with Manchester United, since winning 2-1 in their first such meeting in August 1992.
  • The Blades have lost their last seven meetings with Man Utd in all competitions.
  • Chris Basham and Billy Sharp are the two sole survivors from Sheffield United’s last meeting with Man U, in a 1-0 FA Cup defeat in January 2016.
  • Victor Lindelof is the only Man U defender to have produced more than one through ball this season in the league, doing so on two occasions.
  • No Sheffield United player are yet to score from a free-kick in the league this season.

Prediction

Man Utd have surprisingly played quite well in recent weeks but this is going to be their acid test, against a team who have lost just once against a top team this season and boasts a style to trouble any flanks.

I therefore can see this becoming a game of defence vs attack with the Red Devils’ defence still questionable, which will suit the Blades’ counter attacking style rather nicely.

A draw therefore would be a great result for both teams although if there’s a winner then it will be from the away team.

Prediction: Sheffield United 1-1 Manchester United

Result: Sheffield United 3-3 Manchester United
