2019-20 Premier League: Week 13 – Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Premier League leaders, Liverpool look to extend their lead as they visit Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Palace could go fifth if they take a shock victory and results elsewhere swing in their favour.

Liverpool meanwhile could extend their lead over second-placed Leicester to 11 points with a win and Foxes loss.

Wilfried Zaha is a doubt for Crystal Palace as he continues to recover from a foot injury suffered against Chelsea last time out.

Joel Ward is also doubtful with a groin injury which he picked up in that game.

Liverpool could be without Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson due to ankle injuries, although both will receive late fitness tests.

Joe Gomez (knee) and Xherdan Shaqiri (calf) are also doubts but Jordan Henderson is available after recovering from illness.

Joel Matip and Nathaniel Clyne are out indefinitely with knee injuries.

Form

Palace have taken one point from their last four games but have faced current members of the top six in those games, including a pair of 2-0 home defeats by Manchester City and Leicester.

Liverpool are still yet to suffer a league defeat this season but has conceded in their last eight across all competitions.

Stat Attack

  • Crystal Palace are winless in their last four competitive meetings with Liverpool (L4).
  • Sadio Mane has scored once in each of Liverpool’s last four clashes with Palace.
  • There has never been a goalless Premier League draw between these teams at Selhurst Park.
  • Virgil Van Dijk is the only Liverpool player to have made more headed clearances than Palace’s joint top pair of Joel Ward and Gary Cahill, producing 29 headed clearances to their 27 such clearances.
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold has taken 50 corners for Liverpool in the league this season, one less than Palace’s overall total of 51 corners by three different players.

Prediction

Liverpool look unbeatable so I can’t see past them for the win against a Palace team, who have struggled against big teams this season.

Roy Hodgson however will probably try a counter approach with Palace to limit their losses, but this should be a comfortable Reds win.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-3 Liverpool

Result: Crystal Palace 1-2 Liverpool
