Liverpool remain top from Manchester City on a busy weekend full of goals, featuring more twists in the battle for survival.
Georginio Wijnaldum’s 70th minute strike squeezed through Dean Henderson’s legs proved the difference for Liverpool in an edgy encounter at Sheffield United, as they maintained their five point lead over Manchester City, who grinded out a scrappy 3-1 win at Everton.
Gabriel Jesus and Dominic Calvert-Lewin both scored first half headers but a Yerry Mina foul on Kevin de Bruyne would change the match late on, as Riyad Mahrez fired in from the resulting free-kick before Raheem Sterling completed City’s win with a fine strike via the underside of the crossbar.
