2019-20 Premier League: Week Four – Everton vs Wolves

Everton welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Goodison Park in the opening match of this weekend’s Super Sunday, as the visitors look to continue their unbeaten start despite not collecting a league win yet.

Team news

Gbamin

Everton has no fresh injury concerns as Jean-Phillipe Gbamin is their only absentee with a quad injury.

Wolves have a full squad available although Leander Dendoncker is a slight doubt with a leg injury.

Form

Everton are unbeaten in three of four games this season in all competitions but lost their last league outing away at Aston Villa.

Wolves meanwhile are yet to lose in all competitions but have drawn each of their three league games so far, with their six wins all coming in the Europa League.

Stat Attack

  • Everton have lost just one of their last eight meetings with Wolves (W2, D5, L1).
  • Both teams have scored in three of their last five meetings, with Raul Jimenez and Ruben Neves scoring for Wolves in both meetings last season.
  • Wolves’ Raul Jimenez is the only player to have hit the woodwork more than once coming into this weekend, doing so on two occasions.
  • Everton’s Morgan Schneiderlin is just one of two players to have received a red card this season, alongside Brighton’s Florian Andone.
  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin is yet to register a shot on target for Everton this season.

Prediction

I am expecting a revealing encounter because both teams are capable of challenging for a top six spot, but haven’t really fired on all cylinders in their opening few games.

Wolves however have shown signs of fatigue in recent games so the international break has come at a great time for some of their players, so Everton should exploit this issue if go for a quick tempo.

A draw would therefore be a decent result because Wolves seem to have quickly mastered the skill of grinding out points from these weekend league games after European outings, and Everton aren’t the most consistent as Lincoln demonstrated in midweek.

Prediction: Everton 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
