2018-19 Europa League Semi-Finals: Second Legs – Chelsea vs Eintracht Frankfurt

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Chelsea know that only a win will realistically see them past Eintracht Frankfurt and into this season’s Europa League final.

Chelsea will be without N’Golo Kante for the next fortnight due to a hamstring injury picked up at weekend against Watford.

Callum Hudson-Odoi (Achilles), Antonio Rudiger (knee), Marco van Ginkel (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) and Ethan Ampadu (back) are all long-term absentees.

Eintracht Frankfurt could have Sebastien Haller available after he travelled with the squad, having missed recent weeks with an abdominal injury.

Sebastian Rode is also available after overcoming a sprained toe picked up in the first leg.

Stat Attack

  • Chelsea have won two of last three semi-final second legs in all UEFA competitions (W1, D1, L1), although they have been opposite ends of 3-1 results in their last two UEFA semi-final second legs.
  • Eintracht Frankfurt have won and lost one of their last two semi-final second legs in UEFA competitions.
  • Last four teams to draw the first leg of an Europa League semi-final away from home have all gone on to reach the final, with last two such teams emerging as champions that season.

Prediction

Having rested the majority of their squad at weekend, Eintracht Frankfurt will definitely be a tough test for a Chelsea side who are yet to lose at home in this competition this season.

I therefore am predicting a tight cagey game but Chelsea have more depth in their squad which will see them through.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Eintracht Frankfurt AET
