Title chasing Liverpool welcome Huddersfield to Anfield in a crucial clash for the Reds’ title hopes as this weekend’s Premier League action kicks off with Friday Night Football.
Victory will send Liverpool back top ahead of this weekend’s games whilst Huddersfield’s rock bottom finish will be confirmed unless they take all three points.
Team news
Embed from Getty ImagesLiverpool could be without Fabinho after the midfielder was subbed off against Cardiff with a head injury, just four minutes after coming off the bench.
Adam Lallana (muscle) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (fitness) are also doubts but Dejan Lovren is set to return from illness.
Huddersfield could welcome Adama Diakhaby back from a hamstring injury for the trip to Anfield.
Jonathan Hogg is also available after being subbed shortly before half-time during the Terriers’ defeat against Watford
Laurent Depoitre (foot) and Ben Hamer (knock) are however set to be sidelined but could return next weekend against Manchester United as Abdelhamid Sabiri looks set to be out until next season as he rebuilds his match fitness after a broken collar bone.
Form
Liverpool extended their unbeaten league run to 14 matches after defeating Cardiff last weekend and have suffered just one home defeat all season across all competitions.
Huddersfield are winless in their last seven since beating Wolves at end of February, scoring just three goals in their last four away games of which all three came at West Ham last month in a 4-3 loss.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool have won 11 of last 13 meetings with Huddersfield (W11, D2).
- The Reds have scored 14 goals in their last eight clashes across all competitions without reply.
- Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have both netted twice in two of last three meetings.
- Two more clean sheets will see Alisson become the first goalkeeper to win the Golden Glove in his first Premier League season since Petr Cech achieved that feat for Chelsea in 2004-05 season.
- Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson and Aaron Mooy of Huddersfield have both recorded just 7.69% shooting success from their shots.
Prediction
I can’t see past a Liverpool win here because Huddersfield are still poor defensively despite recent improvement on the attacking front.
Jurgen Klopp however is bound to have one eye on Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Barcelona, so wouldn’t be surprised if the plan is to try and get two goals in first half then sit back for rest of match.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Huddersfield Town
Jake predicts: Liverpool 3-0 Huddersfield Town
Result: Liverpool 5-0 Huddersfield Town
