Manchester City returned to the summit of the Premier League after a dramatic week featuring a rescheduled midweek round of fixtures.
City initially went top after beating Fulham 2-0 on Saturday, only to be knocked back to second after Toby Alderweireld’s own goal returned Liverpool to the peak with a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Pep Guardiola’s Citizens then reclaimed the lead on Wednesday after goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Leroy Sane ensured a comfortable victory against Cardiff.

Back at the top, Spurs put their Anfield defeat behind them with a 2-0 victory over Palace at their new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, putting them back in third after Arsenal grabbed that spot with a home win over Newcastle on Monday night 48 hours earlier.
Chelsea initially went fourth after beating Cardiff on Sunday but Arsenal’s win meant that the Blues are now in fifth behind them on goal difference after dispatching Brighton on Wednesday night.
That defeat meant that the Seagulls are just clinging onto 15th ahead of Southampton on goal difference, after the Saints had beaten them on Saturday through Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s second-half strike.
Manchester United meanwhile fell to sixth after a week of contrasting fortunes in which they beat Watford then lost at Wolves by 2-1 results.

Finally, Leicester and Everton comfortably dispatched Bournemouth and West Ham respectively to keep their top seven hopes alive.
