Liverpool welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield in a blockbuster Super Sunday clash.
With Manchester City currently back top, this is a must win for Liverpool if they’re to regain the initiative in the title race whilst Spurs know every point is key to their top four hopes.
Team news
Embed from Getty ImagesLiverpool could have four players available after injuries kept them off international duty.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (back), Andrew Robertson (mouth) and Xherdan Shaqiri (groin inflammation) are all available as Naby Keita remains doubtful with an unspecified injury.
Joe Gomez (leg) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee) are both close to first-team returns but won’t be risked here.
Tottenham are without midfielders, Eric Dier and Harry Winks as the pair battle respective muscular and groin injuries.
Serge Aurier could also be another absentee for Spurs after suffering a thigh injury during Ivory Coast’s win against Rwanda in an AFCONs qualifier.
Form
Liverpool enter this game unbeaten in their last 12 across all competitions and have won four of their last five home league games.
Tottenham meanwhile have avoided defeat in two of their last six matches, and have a single point from their last four league games, losing all three away trips in that spell.
Stat Attack
- Liverpool have lost just one of their last 13 meetings with Tottenham Hotspur across all competitions (W8, D4, L1).
- Tottenham haven’t won at Anfield since May 2011, drawing three and losing four of their last seven league trips.
- Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane have both netted three goals each across two of last three fixtures between these teams, both failing to score in September’s clash at Wembley.
- Spurs have lost just two of their last nine trips to Merseyside against Liverpool/Everton (W3, D4, L2).
- Liverpool’s leading scorers in Sadio Mane and Salah have 34 goals league goals between them this campaign compared to Tottenham’s Kane and Son Heung-min who have produced 28 between them.
Prediction
Both teams have it all to lose here so I am expecting a good attacking game but Liverpool are yet to lose at home all season, which is quite pivotal given Spurs’ recent dip in form.
Defence however is questionable for both sides after suspect displays before the international break, although Liverpool’s is the more stable.
A part of me therefore can see a 1-1 draw but Liverpool’s attack will be too much to stop as the match wears on.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
