2018-19 Sky Bet Championship: Week 32 Roundup

Leeds United are back top from Norwich City after yet another thrilling round of Sky Bet Championship action. 

Leaders, Norwich entered their clash against Preston North End looking to consolidate their position. The Lilywhites however got off to a flyer after Ben Davies headed in Paul Gallagher’s free-kick in second minute. 

Gallagher then netted from the spot after Callum Robinson was brought down before Sean Maguire sealed the win in 69th minute, firing in rebound effort from Alan Browne’s screamer which bounced off the crossbar. 

Teemu Pukki then headed in a injury time consolation for Norwich, who could remain top if Leeds didn’t win.

Ezgjan Alioski created both goals with Pontus Jansson turning in their first before Jack Harrison headed in Alioski’s cross. Oli McBurnie however ensured that it would be no clean sheet with his late penalty after Joel Asoro was brought down as Leeds moved back top.   

Sheffield United remain close behind in third after Richard Stearman’s 61st minute header was enough to defeat sixth-placed Middlesbrough.

West Bromwich Albion occupy fourth after coming from behind twice to deny Nottingham Forest in a 2-2 draw, as Forest made it six consecutive draws from Midlands derbies.

Bristol City rose to fifth after goals from Niclas Eliasson and Famara Diedhiou cancelled out Matt Smith’s rebound opener for QPR. 

Derby remain in seventh on goal difference after being held to a 1-1 draw at Ipswich, as Birmingham fell five points behind after Callum Connelly’s late header handed second-bottom Bolton victory.

Reading meanwhile moved out of the relegation zone after taking a 2-1 victory over Blackburn with Rotherham falling into the bottom three, following a comeback 2-2 draw at Hull.

Elsewhere, Neal Maupay handed Brentford a late victory over Aston Villa after firing in Said Benrahma’s pass. 

Finally, Wigan and Millwall remain just above the drop after claiming goalless home draws against Stoke and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.
